He was a wild boy and I was a wild girl too. We were never meant to live a life of captivity, traps were everywhere, so we ran. Into the forest and far away. I thought they would never catch us. But one day they did. I slowed him down and they baited him, the wolf. They caught him and they took him from me. I got away, but only barely, the scars still show. I skulked in the shadows, black panther, comoflagued, hidden, alone.

I couldn’t stay hidden forever. There was a light growing inside of me. A gift from the wolf. A rising star so bright it burnt through all of the shadows and camouflage. A ball of fire that burnt through my very being, a sun that shone within me, illuminating everything. Searing the skin from my blackened body, it burst forth. The pain was unimaginable. Through the fire and fury I became the Phoenix.

On the fiery wings of the Phoenix I fly high above the chaos and the lies. I see the traps and distorted timelines. Splitting and falling away. The dead are walking among us now. We will be the living. We will be those who rise after humanity has fallen to ashes. As we always have.
